How Many of Each Animal Did Noah Have On the Ark?
Genesis 6:19
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
Genesis 7:2
2 You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female;
(Confusion in what happens in story)
If you read the verses previous to Genesis 6:19, you will find God tells Noah to build the ark and goes into detail on how large to make the ark and such. Anything with the ark, God went into detail because that was what was needed at that time. At that moment, it didn't matter how many of each animal, so God gave Noah generalized reasons why he was building the ark so large. God understood that it was going to take Noah some time to build the ark. Months in the least. Giving him details on the size of the ark was important so he knew how large to build it. If God would have piled all the details of the animals on Noah as well, it would likely have been too much info. Why over weigh Noah's mind with needless information.
Then in chapter 7 after all the time of building the ark has passed and it was about done, and God said he would bring the floods in 7 days. Noah now had to fill the ark with all of the animals God was bringing him and he needed to gather more food. This is when the details of how many animals was important. So Noah would understand better how much food to load and so he would not be overloaded when he saw many of the animals come in sevens.
This is not a contradiction, but simply God giving detailed info to what needed details while generalizing for the reasons why to build the ark so large. Then being more detailed with the animals when that information became necessary.
