Primary Verses
Primary scriptures are the most important scriptures in the Bible. It is through these primary verses that one can find God's truth and not man's interpretation of God's Word.
There are thousands of denominations in Christianity. They all teach different variations of doctrines. They all insist that the Holy Spirit led them to the correct interpretation of God's Word. However, there is only one true God, who gave to us one true set of doctrines. Obviously, they could not all have possibly been led by the Holy Spirit in their studies. If they had, there would only be one denomination today. Clearly, even though the Holy Spirit can be trusted, man cannot trust his own abilities to know the difference between the Holy Spirit and his own thoughts.
When I realized I had to start studying God's Word for myself to find the truth, all of this had me worried. I do not claim to be some genius. If so many who were likely far more intelligent than I, had studied God's Word before me and came up with different doctrines, how was I supposed to find the truth? Who was I to think I could do what others have not done?
I have always been told that when we study God's Word, we should pray first and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth. However, as I already pointed out, I realized that was not working. That has led to thousands of different denominations. So instead, one night I was praying to God, and instead of asking Him to show me the truth, I asked Him to show me how to know the difference between His truth and man's interpretation. The very next day, when I was reading the Bible, I began to notice certain verses.
I noticed that there were verses that were so clearly written, that one simply could not interpret them to mean anything different than what they said. At least not without throwing logic out the window. Consider the shortest verse in the Bible.
John 11:35 (NASB)
35 Jesus wept.
Who wept? It was not John or Peter or Paul. It was Jesus. What did Jesus do? He didn't laugh, sneeze or sing. He wept. He cried. This verse is so clearly written that you simply cannot interpret it to mean anything other than what it says. That is a primary scripture.
If a scripture is a true Primary Verse, then logic says it must be God's truth. Because for it not to be, it would then have to contradict God's truth and God's Word cannot have any clear contradictions.
As I continued to read, I kept seeing verses like this and I realized they were the answer to my prayer. They were how one can find the difference between man's interpretation and God's truth. If you followed the primary verses, you would find God's truth!
When I studied each doctrine, I found that every doctrine seemed to have at least one primary verse that supported it. Some had multiple primary verses. Yet they never contradicted each other.
Only once did I find where two primary verses seemed to contradict each other. Logically, that was impossible unless there was a contradiction in Gods Word. So I began digging into both verses and I found that one of them had a couple articles written about their translation being not quite right. Now I had one solid primary verse and another verse that was written like one, but had questionable translations. I could only acknowledge the solid scripture to be a Primary verse at that time.
You see, man will interpret scripture to fit his desires. When a pastor studies the Bible, they already have their beliefs set. They don't look to prove those wrong. They look to support them. That is the worst thing anyone can do when studying God's Word. Every false doctrine has scripture that is interpreted to support it. So when people are looking to support what they believe, they will find scripture that supports it, even if it is wrong.
When you study God's Word using Primary scriptures, you eliminate the ability to follow a false doctrine. The only interpreting you should be doing is to interpret verses to support primary scriptures. Only then can you truly find God's truth and not man's interpretations.
