Answered Prayer and Modern Day Miracles
One of the most common bits of evidence that God is real, is looking at the prayers he has answered. Now I understand that there is such a thing as coincidence. Praying to God to let you find your keys and then the next place you look they are there. Sure that could just be coincidence. But there are answered prayers that often defy logic. Some of the strangest events I have ever witnessed came right after someone's prayer. So strange that it simply defies logic and becomes very hard to accept as just coincidence.
I had a friend once who was running really tight on money. Him and his wife were struggling to pay their bills for a while. He was reading his Bible and started praying to God to help them out some. As he was still praying, he heard a loud crash outside and he jumped up and looked out the window to find a car had smashed into his cars in his driveway. Trust me it gets weirder.
He lived near the bottom of a small hill. A neighbor across the street at the top of the hill had gotten home and shut his car off and went inside his house with the car still in neutral. When in neutral you are not supposed to be able to get your keys out of the ignition and he has never had a problem with that in the past. Yet somehow, this time he left it in neutral and he shut it down and took the keys out and went inside. The driveway had a large parking area so he parked his car parallel with the street and the car rolled down the hill on the grass on the other side of the street. For no logical reason, the car turned right, drove between a telephone pole and a mailbox, crossed the street, hit my friend's car in the back end, glanced off and hit his other car as well. You can see how this is getting strange right?

Well the insurance agent came out to his house and looked at both of his cars. Looking over both cars, he decided they were both totaled. Because they were parked in his driveway, he received a check for the value of both cars. And the weirdest thing was both cars were still drive-able. The damage wasn't that bad. I had always thought insurance companies did not like to pay out and here they paid out in full for two cars over damage that wasn't all that bad.
Much of this could be coincidence, but when you put all of that together and it happened as he was praying for financial help? Too much for coincidence in my book.
One time I was out of work for around two years as my field of business had taken a huge hit and there simply was no work out there. I went through our finances and looked at the calendar and circled a date that if I couldn't find work by that date, there would be no hope of saving us from eviction. We had supplemented my wife's income with everything we had including credit cards that were maxed out. It just finally got to the point of no hope. Believe me there was some praying going on. On the morning of that circled date, I got up and did the usual first thing in the morning for me. GO through my emails and hope there was some reply to a job application or resume. Nothing.
I don't know why I decided to do it but I started going through my junk mail and when I didn't see anything hopeful there either, I just selected all and was about to delete them when I stopped. I don't know why I stopped, but I felt I needed to look again. I scanned through them again and my eyes fell on one that said "possible opportunity". I cannot tell you how many similar emails I had like that every day. So I moved my cursor up to the delete button again and again I stopped. I suddenly realized the name on the email seemed slightly familiar. Finally I decided to just open that email and it ended up being from a guy who I once worked with and hardly knew. He had become the top boss of the company and was emailing me to see if I was looking for work still.
Two or three times I came so close to deleting that email and each time something stopped me. I usually didn't even go through my junk mail simply because I got so much of it. But after being laid off for almost two years, on the day I circled would be the end of hope day, I almost deleted the email that was my saving grace. My answer to my prayers. I almost deleted it and each time something stopped me.
My entire life has been filled with coincidences. My family used to know me for my favorite saying, "What were the odds of that?" But the strangest ones. The instances that seemed to defy coincidence always seemed to come after prayer.
My brother had asthma growing up. I mean real bad asthma. There were multiple times he actually stopped breathing on the way to the hospital. One time I woke up in the middle of the night to my dad repeating over and over "God Help me!". I thought he was having a heart attack and I ran out and found him standing there with my little brother over his shoulder. He was trying to call emergency as he was holding him.
We lived in a house that sat far back from the other houses and quite often pizzas would be late because they would not see the house as they looked for the address. This was before they used GPS. So my mother had ran out front so she could wave down cops and ambulances when they showed up. As she ran out front, there was a cop who was just coming to a stop in front of the house and she screamed for him. It turns out that someone crashed into my friend's car across the street and took off and he had called the police. The cop wasn't even there for my brother and he came running in and took over. He happened to be one of the most experienced on the force with asthma and he didn't even waste time trying to revive my brother. With asthma, you cant just give them mouth to mouth to help them breath. He took my brother in his car and drove to the hospital. My parents got there and they had to wait in the waiting room and my mother was praying. She felt God telling her to read his word and she had her Bible in her hands so she opened it to a random place. The first verse her eyes fell on was about trusting in the Lord and as she read that, the doctor came out to tell them my brother was fine.
My brother had stopped breathing for over 3 minutes that night. He never showed any signs of damage from a lack of oxygen to the brain or anything. Every time I share this story, I get tears in my eyes for how close I came to losing a brother that night.
Coincidences happen. I get that. With prayer involved they happen more often and they beat much greater odds. There is no doubt in my mind that prayers do get answered. I believe these answered prayers are evidence of God's existence. I do not doubt it.
Maybe you do doubt it. Maybe you think all of this is just coincidence. If you do, then let me ask you a question. What would be an answered prayer you wouldn't be able to deny? No matter how crazy the odds, no matter how unique the story or impossible it may seem, you will find another reason for it rather than accept it is from God. God can prove to anyone he is real, but only if they are willing to accept the proof when its handed to them. But if you are not willing to believe, then there is absolutely nothing God can do to prove Himself to you. You will always make some reason for why the proof is not enough. There are modern day miracles that happen and they get very little publicity because either the media doesn't want to portray God is real, or people convince themselves it was something else other than God.
Here are some Modern day miracles reported on bigger news stations so that you can be a little more assured that they weren't just some made up stories and pushed by a no-name website.
