Was the Earth Dry or Not?
Genesis 8:13-14
13 Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
(Confusion in what is happening in story.)
Genesis 8:15-16
15 Then God spoke to Noah, saying, 16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.
Obviously that he says Noah saw it was dry and then almost three months later the earth was dry, it isn't a mistake but simply how they wrote the story. If one simply uses logic and imagines what would have happened, its not hard to see what really happens here.
Noah looked out and saw the earth was dry (as in the water was gone). So why would they wait three months until the earth was dry to go out of the ark? Well if the earth was one big sea for months, then the water finally recedes, once you saw the water was gone, if you were to leave the ark immediately, what would happen? You would likely sink very deep into the mud and die. Since they landed on a mountain I believe, the mountain side would have been very unstable still. Just because the water was gone from the surface, doesn't mean the ground is dry enough to support people and animals moving about on it.
You see, verse 13 has Noah looking out and seeing the ground had dried up. This is just saying the water was gone from the surface. There is no way Noah would have been able to tell it was dry solid ground ready to support them just by looking out a window. He knew it wasn't. So he waited almost three months. Do you think Noah did not even bother to look outside during those three months? I am sure he did. He likely sat there every day staring at the drying land, anxious to get off the ark, but he waited three months. For what? For God to tell him it was dry enough to leave the ark.
