Understanding the Holy Trinity
In the beginning there was God. Nothing else. Only God existed, but He existed in three separate persons. Jehovah, the Word and the Holy Spirit. They are not each other, but all three of them are God. They are not three gods, but they are all, One True God.
Some find that hard to understand, but it is quite simple. Simply look at your hand and describe it. You have a palm, 4 fingers and a thumb. The palm is not the thumb or fingers. The fingers are not the thumb. But all three together make up the hand. That is how it works. The Father is not the Son. Neither of them are the Holy Spirit. All three of them make up one true God.
God the Word created everything. He created the universe, the earth, and everything on the earth. Anything that has come into existence, was created by the Word. (John 1:1-3)
When man became corrupted, there was no sacrifice we could make to God that could save us from the lake of fire which He has created for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41) So Jehovah sent the Word to us, to be born as a man and live among us as a man. He sent the Word to die for us. To be the only sacrifice that was pure enough and holy enough to wash us clean of the stain of sin and save us. (All four Gospels tell this story)
The Word put His godly powers aside to be born fully human. When the Word was born, they named Him Yehoshua, which through time has become recognized as Jesus. When he was born, He had then become the Son of God Jehovah. Jehovah became the Father of Jesus. Because Jesus did not have His godly powers, it had to be Jehovah who put his spirit in the child to be born.
So now there was still one true God who reveals Himself in three persons. God the Father (Jehovah), God the Son, (The Word, Yehoshua/Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit.
As Jesus walked among us, He was still God, but He did not have His godly powers. He was fully human. He had emotions as a man, temptations as a man, the flesh of a man and he had all the same senses of any man. But He could still see the Father and hear the Father. This is why Jesus so often made remarks like "The Father is greater than I". Because Jesus had set His power aside and became a man like any other. So while he was a man of flesh, the Father was indeed greater than He was.
Every miracle Jesus performed was through faith in the Father. He did not have His own powers and so it was always the Father doing the miracle through the Son. (John 5:19)
Jesus knew what was coming. He knew what kind of death He would suffer through. He was God and still chose to willingly go through it all without His godly powers. Why? Because He needed to be the perfect sacrifice that was necessary for us to be saved.
No other religion has a god that sacrificed Himself to save us. In every man made religion, man has to earn his way to heaven. With Jesus, it is the opposite. Jesus took on flesh and suffered greatly and died so that we might be saved. It is a gift of God to those who will believe in Jesus as the Son of God and their Lord and Savior. We do not need to do anything. We only need to believe it in our heart, and we will be saved.
There is no greater love one can have than to give his life for his brother. That is exactly what God did for us. He came and was born as a man in the flesh. He gave his life, to be the perfect sacrifice so that we could be saved.
Our salvation is dependent upon our believing in Jesus as Lord in our hearts. Nothing else. The very moment we believe, the Father sends the Holy Spirit to enter us and He seals us with a promise of salvation. The closer we get to God, the more we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us. The stronger the Holy Spirit is inside us, the less we desire sin. However, the more we sin, the further we separate ourselves from the voice of God. The further we fall from God, the more miserable we become because our spirit has been changed to desire God.
That is why once we are Born Again, the most important thing we can do is work on our personal relationship with God on a daily basis.
I know I do not list many verses to back all this up. All of it is backed up by scripture in many other articles that are free to read here at OneGodLogic.com.
